Our Purpose. Our Vision.

Friends of Fosters was founded on a vision both urgent and timeless: to create a loving, stable, support system for children in foster care, rooted in the belief that every child deserves to experience the security and warmth of a family. Drawing inspiration from the Bible’s teachings—where both Old and New Testament urge us to care for the “the least of my brothers”—the organization is committed to defending this cause by providing sanctuary, opportunity, and hope for children navigating the uncertainties of out-of-home care.

While we often hear of the neglect of children in third-world countries, we are often oblivious to the needs of the children right here within our local communities. As Christians, we are called to help those in need, and use our gifts to help others. What better way to show our love than to step up and help the children who desire to be loved and protected…children needing family.

What We Do

Friends of Fosters is dedicated to advocating for children in foster care, empowering them to find stability and support through community engagement and faith-based initiatives. We believe that all children—regardless of their circumstances—should be afforded the same opportunities, experiences, and unconditional love as their peers. Our ministry seeks to:

  • Build supportive networks around each child, modeled on the strengths of a caring family unity
  • Provide spiritual and emotional guidance, grounded in the teachings of Christ
  • Foster resilience, hope, and a sense of belonging in children navigating the foster care system
  • Assist in helping children find their forever home
  • Raise awareness and resources within communities, churches and organizations to support children in foster care

Our Purpose

Friends of Fosters has established actionable goals designed to address the unique and complex needs of children living in foster care or waiting for adoption.

  • Advocacy: Advocate for children seeking placement in foster care or adoption ensuring their voices are heard and their interests are championed
  • Volunteer Engagement: Create diverse volunteer opportunities, enabling individuals to offer stable and meaningful relationships to foster children in various capacities
  • Mentorship Programs: Develop structured mentorship initiatives, connecting children with reliable, caring adults who provide guidance and encouragement.
  • Community Mobilization: Collaborate with churches, organizations, groups and governmental agencies to marshal support for foster children in their areas.
  • Spiritual Guidance: Serve as a resource for foster families, providing spiritual mentorship and opportunities for faith development in line with Jesus’ teachings
  • Strategic Partnerships: Partner with other organizations that share our commitment to supporting foster children, leveraging collective resources and expertise
  • Fundraising: Secure funding to support vital programs, events, and educational opportunities for foster children.
  • Access to Enrichment: Facilitate participation in activities and events that would otherwise be inaccessible to foster children due to financial or logistical barriers

Friends of Fosters originated in Maurepas, Louisiana, a small rural community nestled between Greater Baton Rouge and Hammond, Louisiana. The concept came to pass when a couple began looking for ways to serve others in need. They were led (let’s call it prayer, discernment or even the Holy Spirit) to the idea of being “family” to a child who did not really have anyone to rely on…you know, like grandparents or aunts or uncles. Through research on how to do this, they discovered what they already suspected, that “mentoring” played a significant role in the growth, development and outcome of children in and “aging-out” of foster care. They additionally discovered that while various kinds of mentorship programs existed, there weren’t any programs offering this kind of service to children in foster care awaiting adoption. And so it began.

While the desire of Friends of Fosters is to offer their programs throughout the United States, we understand it will take time, support and volunteers. So, for now, we will move forward, working to advocate and bring hope to children in foster care; working to serve the Lord. This means if you reach out to us, we will do our best to assist in bringing awareness and our programs to your area.
